Hoder in Israel

Hoder, the Iranian blogger is in Israel. He writes:

I’m going to Israel as a citizen journalist and a peace activist.

As a citizen journalist, I’m going to show my 20,000 daily Iranian readers what Israel really looks like and how people live there. The Islamic Republic has long portrayed Israel as an evil state, with a consensual political agenda of killing every single man and woman who prays to Allah, including Iranians.

I’m going to challenge that image.

Chinese removes blogger from MSN

Rebecca reports that MSN Spaces has kicked off Anti, a popular blogger who is critical of the Chinese government.

Scoble has just posted in no uncertain terms his disagreement with his employer. (If Microsoft gives Scoble any guff, he should remind them that this is exactly why companies need to have bloggers.) [Tags: RebeccaMackinnon scoble microsoft china blogging censorship]

Africa Quiz

Ethan Zuckerman has put together a 10-question quiz about the year in Africa. 60% is a high score, Ethan says. The good news: You couldn’t do worse than me. Note to self: Must read Global Voices more.

And on his blog, Ethan crunches some numbers to show the growing presence of Chinese blogs. For example, MSN is hosting at least 2 million Chinese language blogs. And Ethan wonders if blogs on Bokee, the popular Chinese blogging platform, are even showing up in the statistics. Says Ethan: “Researchers hoping to make broad statements about weblogs are going to have to start getting profoundly polylingual.” [Tags: GlobalVoices EthanZuckerman china blogosphere]

Peace and courage

Haitham is a Palestinian blogger who went to the Global Voices conference in London last week. As the result of a long walk and conversation — and who knows what else happens in someone’s heart — he has changed his mind, in public, an act of personal and political courage.

In his post you see hope gaining an ally. Thank you, Haitham.

“It is not incumbent upon us to finish the task, but neither are we free to refrain from beginning it.” — Rabbinic quote, cited by the Velveteen Rabbi.
