Bumpersticker ambiguity

I really like Tim Bray‘s “Fat Pipe. Always On. Get out of the way.” In fact, I took one of the bumperstickers David Isenberg had made with this slogan on it. But, as I thought about actually putting in on our car, I realized that it would be pretty scary for the cars behind me. What could they take it to mean except that I’m having a problem with my exhaust system — it’s always on and ready to blow? (Worse, our son Nathan points out that out of context it could be taken as meaning the pipe is pumping fat.) [Tags: ]
