BloggerCorps
Rebecca MacKinnon blurted out an idea at Bloggercon III:
…socially conscious members of the blogging community (of all political persuasions) might want to organize a “Blogger Corps.” Through it, bloggers could donate their time to help poorly funded activists or non-profit groups to figure out what blogging tools are right for them, set up blogs, and develop effective blogging strategies.
Now she asks for comments about how to go about it. Go to her site to join the discussion.
(My comment: It might be appropriate to have a blog for the corps. Unfortunately, it looks like “bloggercorps.org” is being squatted. LATER: Rebecca says it’s owned by a friend.)

Strengthen the Good
A while ago, I stumbed across Strengthen the Good, ‘Using the power of weblogs for open-source charity. Don’t just fight’, which I posted about here a while ago.

:-) I grabbed those domains specifically to box out the domain squatters. They’re Rebecca’s to do with as she pleases. And now, they point to a BloggerCorps blog just as you suggested this morning. Good call!
Coming out of a conference sponsored by The Happy Tutor (http://www.weathbondage.com) in July was an idea of linking good projects together in a network using weblogs to connect activists and donors. It’s still in it’s early stages, but Michael Herman (http://www.globalchicago.net) has created the Small Change News Network (http://www.smallchangenews.org/) and is slowly putting it together. Don’t let the lack of updates fool you…Michaal’s travelling at the moment and much is going on just under the surface.
That conference involved bloggers, activits and philanthropists in three days of conversation and project planning about connecting people, resources and stories. The proceedings are here:

Great idea…BloggerCorps. It fits in well with some of what was talked about in July.
