  3. I strongly recommend, nay, urge you to read “The Triumph of Narrative : Storytelling in the Age of Mass Culture” by Robert Fulford.

“In The Triumph of Narrative, celebrated journalist and critic Robert Fulford explores narrative in all of its forms–from conversation, gossip, and urban legends to journalism, literature, film and television. Fulford vividly illustrates how storytelling formed the core of civilized life, how stories shape us as much as we shape stories, and why the human appetite for narrative persists.”

It was written in 1999. I read it late last summer and in the context of weblogging/journalism/et al, it offers some really interesting insights and things to keep in mind.

  4. Hmm. David, sorry.. that previous comment no wseems somewhat out of context… It was meant to be posted in what seems to be an errant entry of yours dealing also with the “Master Narrative”…

And I failed to mention that I recommend this book in this case because Fulford talks about the Master Narrative / Historical Master Document… and that framing that with the current evolution of weblogs and social networking… well, it all sorta comes together… ;)

  7. “Master Narrative” is the main responsible for taking away our Autonomy. Making us become slaves of our own materialist world.
