The Doctors Dean with Diane Sawyer
I thought this was a good interview, despite Sawyer’s alternation between being insipid and baiting them. It was the first time I’ve heard Judy Steinberg, and I think it gives a pretty good picture of what he and they are like, modulo their political concerns and Sawyer’s entertainment concerns. (FWIW, I liked Steinberg a lot. The fact that she’s about my age and grew up a couple of miles from where I grew up I’m sure has no affect on my feeling comfortable with her immediately.)
Salon has a good summary and analysis of Steinberg’s presence in the interview.

I am enjoying your insider coverage of the Dean campaign. I was wondering, are other campaign insiders constantly whining about the unfair press coverage Dean is getting?
Dean does come across as an angry man, it might make sense to deal with it.
Mike, show me where Dean comes across as an angry man. Dean’s anger is the WMD of this campaign.

Here’s the “angry man” behavior that
our friends at ABCNews located: Howard
Dean watched as a male cameraman clubbed a
female ABCNews reporter with a camera so that he could
get a better shot at a picture. Dr. Dean
stated in a stern, fatherly voice that this
crude conduct had to stop or interviews would cease.
“Angry man.” Right.

As was said on The News Hour today–it was Dean who upped the ante and opened the way for the more timid Demos to finally begin criticizing Bush directly in public, instead of walking around with their shorts pulled down to their knees. Thank him for that, and do not forget it; and we SHOULD be angry. It’s not a sit-com.
