We Media

JD Lasica writes about the “We Media” report on participatory journalism and “How audiences are shaping the future of news and information.” It’s by Shayne Bowman and Chris Willis, edited by JD, with a foreword by Dan Gillmor. I’ve skimmed it and it looks like it’ll be the reference point for any serious discussions of this topic from now on.

  1. SHIT.

No mention of the announcement of the candidacy of JWC.

Looks like the tin-badge political bloggers and lipstick liberals for Dean have become suddenly irrelevant.

    WHEN CLINTON LIED,
    NO ONE DIED.

  2. We Media this:

(From Michael Moore’s letter urging JWC to run: http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?messageDate=2003-09-12 )

The other night, when you were on Bill Maher’s show, he began by reading to you a quote from Howard Dean where he (Dean) tried to run away from the word “liberal.” Maher said to you, so, General, do you want to run away from that word? Without missing a beat, you said “No!” and you reminded everyone that America was founded as a “liberal democracy.” The audience went wild with applause.

  3. Sorry to disappoint you Dan, but this is a blog, not a newspaper, so I don’t cover every item worth mentioning.

I’m glad Clark is in the race. From what I know of him, I’ll vote for him happily if he gets the nomination. If he splits the primary votes with Dean so that a more centrist candidate gets the nomination, I’ll be pissed, but, hey, that’s democracy for you.

Now, why are you so angry?

    We Media .

  5. I’m sorry David, you’re right. You’re the quarterback, you call the plays, and you can’t maintain a seriousness 100% of the time without appearing self-righteous and boring.

All I can say is I hope you and your readership will check out Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine” now out on DVD, and Franken’s new book. I hear that he will be doing a talk radio show soon. They make the most compelling arguments against the conservative cant and mass media with the intensive research they have done.

  6. Am I a quarterback? Really? Excellent! Which end of the ball do I throw?

FWIW, I had mixed feelings about Bowling for Columbine. I wrote about it here.

  7. Ghostbusters

Scheint ein wichtiger Text für den längst überfälligen Relaunch von MonsterMedia zu sein.

  8. What’s with “JWC”? “WC” is Wesley Clark…but wtf does the “J” mean? Is his first name John or something? Cuz last time I checked, “general” starts with a “G”.

  9. I guess you’re right, Luke. (For some reason I hear that line being spoken by Walter Brennan of the Real McCoy’s or Surreal McCoy’s– I keep getting the two confused). I confused Wesley Clark with John Wesley Harding, the Dylan album. Hey, if Searls can repeatedly call Dr. Dean, “John Dean” in his interview with Chris Lydon (not to be confused with Johnnie “Rotten” Lydon, formerly of the Sex Pistols), I should be absolved with minimal penance.

The football reference was stimulated by the Marilyn Manson’s “The Fight Song” video which is included with the Bowling DVD.

So, Bush today finally clues in 70% of the American public who FOOLISHLY BELIEVE that Sadam had something to do with 9/11. And here is blogneverneverland, we hear about DeanSpace and pirate words. Who the hell sets the priorities here? How about a little moral indignation mixed in with all this parlor talk?

    DH – BUSH LIED.

  10. Let me repeat: This is a blog, not a newspaper. I don’t cover all the most important stuff. I figure other people do that. I cover what interests me and what maybe hasn’t been talked about everywhere.

As for Bush lying, let me go one step further: He didn’t go AWOL in the 70s. He deserted. I believe that’s a capital offense…
